(Salem, Ore.—Sept. 28, 2012) –Northwest Farm Credit Services has contributed $5,000 to the Fire Victim’s Relief Fund, a distinct fund within the Oregon Cattlemen’s Stewardship Fund to support relief efforts for ranchers affected by the devastating wildfires in Oregon.

Northwest Farm Credit, a longtime supporter of ranching families in Oregon and the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association, is a cooperatively owned lending association specializing in financing farmers, ranchers, agribusiness and other entities in Oregon and throughout the West.

Kay Teisl, Executive Director of the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association, stated, “This gift by Northwest Farm Credit Services comes as a critical time for Oregon’s ranchers. Hundreds of thousands of acres have been lost to ranchers and many have faced additional losses of livestock and infrastructures. This gift by Northwest Farm Credit will help provide support for these ranchers as they work to keep their businesses viable and their livestock fed as winter rapidly approaches. We are grateful to our friends at Northwest Farm Credit for making this investment in Oregon’s ranchers as they face this difficult time.”

Northwest Farm Credit Services’ Regional Vice President, Cathy Bartels added, “It is our sincere honor to provide this gift to the Fire Victim’s Relief Fund of the Oregon Cattlemen’s Stewardship Fund. Ranchers are a critical piece of Oregon’s economic backbone and they need our help now as they work to overcome the devastation and damage from this year’s wildfires. We are proud to be a part of the recovery process.”

This year’s wildfires have damaged hundreds of thousands of acres of land, with a significant impact on grazing and ranchland. Many ranchers have lost livestock, fences, infrastructure as well as public and private lands to feed their cattle through the winter. Contributions to the fund are now being accepted via the OCA website at www.orcattle.com or by calling the OCA office at 503-361-8941.
