(Bend, OR-November 27, 2013) – The Oregon Cattlemen’s Association will be hosting their Annual Convention and Trade Show at the Riverhouse Resort in Bend, Oregon. This year the OCA has ramped up their Convention agenda in celebration of their 100th year of service to the Oregon cattle industry. Thursday has been slated for in-depth industry education and collaboration with Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) training and certification, Cattlemen’s College, and Public Lands Round Table. Throughout the entire Convention registrants will enjoy additional entertainment after business is finished in various committee meetings, round tables, and trainings.
Thursday includes these well-known speakers and industry topics;
Beef Quality Assurance (BQA): training and certification directed by Dr. Reinaldo Cooke of Oregon State University. Beef Quality Assurance is a national program that provides guidelines for beef cattle production. The program raises consumer confidence through offering proper management techniques and a commitment to quality within every segment of the beef industry.
“Steer to Steak” Cattlemen’s College (sponsored by Zoetis & Oregon Beef Council): Bridgett Wasser, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Senior Director of Meat Science and Technology, was just named one of the nation’s top ten industry leaders by Cattle Business Weekly, and will give a demonstration of new innovative Beef Checkoff cuts! She will be following Dr. Gary Sides with Zoetis Animal Health who will bring some clarity to the advantages and challenges of growth promotants including beta-agonists. A panel discussion on value based marketing will conclude with Dr. Gary Sides, Bridgett Wasser, Greg Hanes, Vice President for the United States Meat Export Federation, and Ron Rowan, Director for Beef Northwest Feeders.
Public Lands Roundtable: with participation by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), Oregon Department of State Lands, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and more. This is a great opportunity for ranchers and cattle industry supporters to meet with various agency officials for questions, concerns and observations about various programs and regulations. Subjects may include sage grouse, wolves, wildfire, and/or water.
Central Oregon Ranch Supply Tailgater: Join Central Oregon Ranch Supply in the Trade Show area to “kick-off” OCA Annual Convention 2013. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided and a full bar will be accessible for all attendees 21 and over. Attendees will enjoy this networking opportunity complete with football, tailgating games and prizes.
Registration for one day of the Oregon Cattlemen’s Convention and Trade Show costs $30 and affords you entrance to all the above programs. Friday and Saturday of Convention will include Trade Show, Cowboy Christmas Gift Show, numerous industry breakout sessions, committee meetings and program updates.
