The Oregon Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) is announcing its Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Program for those with an interest in serving the beef industry. This comprehensive training program will expose individuals to the many programs and people that affect and influence Oregon’s beef industry.

The Young Cattlemen’s Leadership Program is an 18-month commitment and will include one training/activity approximately every 8-12 weeks. The trainings/activities will be completed in 2027 and the give back component and final meeting will be completed by June, 2027. The program will include:

  • Legislative training
  • Lobbying on behalf of the Oregon beef industry (in Salem, OR and Washington, DC)
  • Beef Day at the Capitol, February
  • Media training

  • Oregon Department of Agriculture – meet with ODA staff and learn more about CAFO, Food Safety & Animal Health, and the State Veterinarian
  • Attend one producer meeting, options include the Oregon Cattlemen’s Convention, OCA board meeting, Oregon Beef Council meeting, State Board of Agriculture, Oregon Beef Council’s fall research meeting or one of the OCA Quarterly Meetings
  • Give back component – this is to be completed during the last six months of the program. It’s up to each individual to decide what their educational outreach activity will be (examples: invite neighbors to a breakfast at your ranch and give them a tour, make a presentation to a local classroom, blog about your ranching experiences)
